Dear plastic bottle, go fuck yourself

(…) it is a ridiculous waste that we obtain so much of our drinking water this way when it is free flowing and just as good if not better for you right out of the tap. According to the Earth Policy Institute (EPI), some 2.7 million tons of petroleum-derived plastic are used to bottle water around the world every year. “Making bottles to meet Americans’ demand for bottled water requires more than 1.5 million barrels of oil annually, enough to fuel some 100,000 U.S. cars for a year,”

Scientific American: Drinking from a Bottle Instead of the Tap Just Doesn’t Hold Water

I’m not an American, neither a scientific for that matter, but it has been two years now that Sandra and I haven’t purchased a single bottle of water. We drink of the tap and we store it in… glass bottles.

We haven’t tried to calculate how much not-thrown-away-plastic that may represent, but that is not insignificant since we used to purchase at least two packs of six each week. That also means a few bucks saved. Not bad.

But who the fuck convinced us that disposable plastic bottles are better? It’s not even as we don’t have to pay for all this plastic. And we throw it away?

That was not 30 years ago–I can recall my granddad coming back from the store with milk, water, lemonade or whatever beverage in glass bottles. And returning those same empty bottles back to the store. They had some value. No waste.

Glass. Shit, it’s revolutionary.
